Shorter College Alumni Association scholarship for Freshman and Sophomores:
Mission. To provide students with an educational opportunity to explore and to excel at new heights of learning by assisting in erasing financial barriers as students broaden their horizon to pursue and complete their journey of higher education at Shorter College.
The funds are ways to offset the cost of tuition, especially considering how expensive college education is. Additionally Incentive funds are allocated for Shorter College Adult Education program, to encourage individuals to complete the requirements to earn a high school education.
Application Process: Application must submit the following items.
• Complete application form.
• Letter of application addressed to Scholarship Committee. The letter should contain a brief explanation of career goals and (biographic) information.
Criteria:
• Applicants must enroll as a full-time student.
• Applicants must have a minimum of 2.5. grade point average (c average)
• Two letters of recommendation of choice from teachers, employer or individual with significant knowledge of your experience.
• An essay (not to exceed 500 words) Addressing one of the following.
1. Describing a hardship you have encountered in your life, and what step you took to over it.
2. Or an essay answering the question what effect this scholarship will have on your future.
The scholarship will be decided by a panel of teachers, Alumni and faculties.
Shorter College Alumni Association Incentive for Adult Education Program:
Mission: To provide students with an educational opportunity to explore and to excel at new heights of learning. To broaden their horizons to pursue and complete their journey of higher education at Shorter.
Incentive Program: Individual who have not completed the requirement for a high school diploma.
Criteria:
• Individuals must pass 3 of 4 GED Ready and/or 2 of 4 Official tests.
• Provide 1 letter of recommendation from Shorter College Adult Education Staff (Program Director, Teacher, or Career Coach). Recommendations must be signed by person making recommendation.
