There are six (6) types of offerings for the Reimagine Arkansas Workforce Program:

Description of Certificate Offerings

Information Technology Certification Track is comprised of six different courses. Certifications offered in the program will prepare students for a career in computing and technological-based processes. Each individual course in this track will last for 4 weeks in duration with exception of an optional basic computer keyboarding. Important Note: To earn the information technology certification all courses must be completed in this track. These 6 courses take 6 months to complete. Participants meet for a duration of 6 hours every week.

– Basic Computer Keyboarding (Optional/As Needed). Exception three weeks duration.

– Computer Programming Concepts
This course will introduce computer programming. Students will get fundamental of programming language C++ (Another suitable language may be substituted by the instructor). This course will give students problem-solving capability. It will cover variables, structure, array, conditions, objects, and loops.

– Object-Oriented Programming
A course designed to teach the initial concepts of object-oriented programming. The concepts of object-oriented programming consist of design, structure, development, and maintenance of a real-time problem. How to use the Java Software Development Kit environment to create, debug and run simple Java programs using NetBeans Integrated Development Environment.

– Networking
This course covers how computer networks and the internet function. It will cover TCP/IP, OSI Model, Network models, Small office & Home network (SOHO), Domain Name Server (DNS) Server, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, network devices, wireless communication techniques, peer-to-peer networks, the client-server model, routing, and network security.

– Data Structures Concept
This course will teach students about fundamental concepts of data structures used in programming language to develop an efficient implementation of algorithms. This course will also teach students about effective software engineering practice.

– Database Management
A course designed to teach the initial concepts of database management: fundamental concept of the design, structure, development, and maintenance of real-time used database software MySQL. This course will cover Data Manipulation Language (DML), Data Control Language (DCL), Joining, Normalization, indexing, will be covered.

– Web Application Programming
This course will teach the student about building full-phase web applications using hypertext markup language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript, server-side language, and database.

 

Certifications in IBM Technology allows participants upon completion of an IBM course to earn a separate certification for each completed IBM technology course. Certifications in IBM offerings are called badges. Upon successful completion, students will earn a badge. The duration of each course is three weeks. Lastly, a final course examination over course material and lectures must be taken and passed prior to a certificate being awarded. These courses are self-paced so students work at their own speed once the course materials are given at the beginning of the course.

– IBM Data Science
Data Science is the computational science of extracting meaningful insights from raw data and then effectively communicating those insights to economic value. Data science involves the collection, storage, and processing of data to gather important insights into a phenomenon. Such data may be generated by humans via (surveys, logs, etc., or machines (weather data, election data, sales data, etc.). The data could be in different formats (text, audio, video, virtual reality, etc.)

– IBM Enterprise Design Thinking
A process for innovative problem-solving. The intent is to deliver information that advances the state of the art and improves the lives of the people enterprises serve. Design Thinking is a powerful approach to innovation and brand differentiation. Design thinking is pulling together what’s desirable from a human point of view with what is technologically feasible and economically viable

– IBM Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is the ability of machines to make decisions and learn in a similar manner as humans. Students will gain an understanding of how machine learning mimics human intelligence. The computer uses algorithms and historical data to create a propensity model, enhance the prediction of a specific event to occur. AI is the ability of a computer or a robot controlled by a computer to do tasks that are usually done by humans.

– IBM Internet of Things
The term IoT encompasses everything connected to the internet. The Internet of things describes the network of physical object “things” that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the Internet without human intervention.

– IBM Cyber-Security
Cyber Security and information technology security are the practice of defending and protecting computers and servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks and data from malicious attack, damage, or unauthorized access.

– IBM Quantum Computing
A computing area focused on creating computer technology based on the principles of quantum theory, which explains the behavior of energy and material on the atomic and subatomic levels.

– IBM Cloud Computing
The delivery of computing services including servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence—over the Internet (“the cloud”) to offer faster innovation, flexible resources, and economies of scale. A simple definition of cloud computing involves delivering different types of services over the Internet.

 

Certificate in Apple (Swift) Coding will prepare students for college or a career in application development using the Swift programming language and is complemented with free online professional learning for educators. Swift is a comprehensive coding offering intended for students in grades 9 and above. Swift is designed for Mac—which supports all major programming languages making it the ideal device for teaching and learning code. The Apple coding track will last six weeks in duration. The assessment methods include quizzes, in-class projects and end-of-course projects and/or examinations. Participants meet for 6 hours each week.

 

Certificate in Social Media provides an overview to explore and enhance a student’s skills and abilities in the social media environment. The certificate is intended to help students gain entry-level employment. The track comprises of four different courses. Each individual course in this track will last four weeks in duration. The assessment methods include quizzes, in-class projects and end-of-course projects and/or examinations. Important Note: To earn the Certificate in Social Media all four courses must be completed. It takes 4 months (16 weeks) to complete the track. Participants meet 6 hours a week for each course.

– Principles of Marketing
Study growth of a marketing plan about consumer behavior, product, pricing, and promotional strategies. Understand the importance of delivering, creating, and learn how to offer goods and services that have value for clients, customers, and society at large.

– Business Communications
This course prepares students for the variety of communication used in today’s workplace. Course content includes writing memoranda, letters, reports, and electronic messages; delivering oral presentations; and developing interpersonal skills. Emphasis is on the integration of these skills with the use of technology.

– Social Media Planning
The training makes students knowledgeable about marketing and management of social media strategy. Students learn to choose visuals and writing for social media, developing followers for a brand, and analyzing user data for measuring success.

– Social Media Communication
This training focuses on the creation and sharing of messages with audiences. Students will explore the possibilities and limitations of writing for social media. Students will learn how to write effective content for social media and use a hands-on approach for understanding and evaluating emerging tools and platforms.

 

Microsoft Office Certification provides an overview to explore and understand word processing skills to edit, and format texts. The certification includes understanding Excel, an application software that is used to perform calculations and analyze numeric data. The track also covers PowerPoint, a presentation software used to present information to an audience. The certification comprises of four different courses. Each individual course in this track will last four weeks in duration. The assessment methods include quizzes, in-class projects and end-of-course projects and/or examinations. Important Note: To earn the certificate all courses must be completed. There is an optional test-out process for students who have mastered each course. A passing score on each test will afford the student to transition to the next Microsoft option course. It takes 4 months(16 weeks) to complete each course. For each course participants meet for 6 hours per week.

– Word
This course will teach students how to utilize Word software at the specialist level. Topics covered include creating and managing documents, creating tables and lists, formatting text, paragraphs, and sections, applying references, and inserting and formatting objects.

– PowerPoint
Students will learn how to use the PowerPoint presentation software. Topics covered include creating and managing presentations, inserting and formatting shapes and slides, creating slide content, applying transitions and animations, and managing multiple presentations.

– Excel
This course teaches Excel at the specialist level. Topics covered include creating and managing worksheets and workbooks, creating cells and ranges, creating tables, applying formulas and functions, and creating charts and objects.

– Outlook
Students will learn how to use the Outlook software. Topics include managing the Outlook environment, creating and formatting item content, managing email messages, contacts, and calendar objects, working with tasks, notes, and journal entries.

 

Entrepreneurial Studies Certification

Certification in The Entrepreneurial Studies prepares attendees with skills, knowledge, and ability needed for self-employment, to start a business, and manage the functional areas of the business to become a successful entrepreneur. The assessment methods include quizzes, in-class projects, and end-of-course projects and/or examinations.  The track comprises of five different courses. Each individual course in this track will last four weeks in duration. Important Note: To earn the Entrepreneurial Studies Certification all courses must be completed. It takes 5 months (20 weeks) to complete this track. For each course, participants meet for a duration of 6 hours per week.

– Introduction to Business
This is a survey course in the field of business including topics such as management, finance accounting, marketing, production, computers, international business, small business, investments, and other areas of general business interest. C

– Introduction to Computers with Business Applications
This course deals with computer literacy and business computer applications. Students develop business level skills in word processing and electronic presentation software. Students learn to use Microsoft Office spreadsheets, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Students further develop skills to collaborate and integrate business processes.

– Business Communications

– Principles of Entrepreneurship
This is a business course that places emphasis on Entrepreneurship: business management, finance, marketing, production, computers, and interpersonal relations and consumer investments. This course is designed to teach the initial concepts of Entrepreneurship that involves the business relation and the managerial concepts of operating and sustaining an effective and productive business.

– Principles of Accounting
The course emphasizes the theoretical foundations of accounting and analytical skills needed by business and accounting students. This course is the ideal way for students to acquire a valuable skill as well as begin to develop an appreciation of the role of accounting in the evaluation and management of a business.
